What is LiteScribe?

LiteScribe is a transcription tool that turns meeting, interview, and webinar recordings into searchable transcripts with summaries and action items. Use this page to decide whether its free plan covers your nonprofit’s recording volume, and to understand exactly what stays on your computer when you use its offline Local Mode.

What Local Mode keeps local, and what it does not

Local Mode runs transcription on your own computer in the LiteScribe desktop app, so the audio is not uploaded. It is available on the Pro and Business plans, on Windows, macOS, and Linux, after a one-time model download. It is not available in the web or mobile apps.

Two details matter before recording sensitive conversations, such as case notes or interviews with vulnerable people:

  • The finished transcript syncs to your LiteScribe account by default. To keep the text on the computer as well, turn off “Sync new local transcripts to cloud” in Settings, Privacy.
  • The app is not fully offline. It checks in periodically to confirm your plan, and pauses new offline work if it cannot check in for about two days.

Outside Local Mode, audio is processed in the cloud. LiteScribe’s privacy policy names AssemblyAI as its transcription provider.
